Lisa Olivia Munn was conceived in Oklahoma City. Kimberly Schmid lived in Vietnam with Chinese ancestry while Winston Barrett Munn's family is origins deep within the American South. Olivia's parents divorced at age two. She grew up with her mother, who served as a pilot in the United States Air Force, and her stepfather. The family emigrated to Oklahoma and moved to several places, but she spent most of her childhood in Tokyo. In the years that followed she performed in a number of local theater productions. Later, she became a model for the Japanese fashion industry. Olivia moved from Japan to Los Angeles when her family eventually moved back home to the United States to follow her aspirations of becoming an actress. She began her acting career with a small part. Her career then took off when she was cast as Mily Acuna on the Hawaii-lensed television show Beyond the Break (2006). In 2007 she appeared as Rob Schneider's receptionist. She hosts G4's podcasts "The Daily Nut" and "Formula D". Her passion for surfing is something she's continued since the 2006 TV show Beyond the Break. She also holds an unofficial black belt in Taekwondo. When she was two, her mom remarried. The second time, she got married to a US Air Force serviceman. While the family moved several times throughout her life, she was educated in Tokyo, Japan, where the military stationed her stepfather. She studied journalism in the University of Oklahoma and also studied Japanese drama, dramatic arts, and acting.
